Vol. 181 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Little Island (Cork) New School.

42.

asked the Minister for Education if he is aware that a large number of pupils attending Little Island School, County Cork, have to be taught in an outhouse which is derelict and without glass in the windows; and if in view of the urgency of the matter he will speed up the erection of the new school.

I am aware that the accommodation in the present school at Little Island is inadequate and that the hall of the building has to be used for classroom purposes. Efforts are being made at present to secure suitable temporary additional accommodation pending the erection of the proposed new school. It is understood that the Commissioners of Public Works have completed the working drawings for the new building and that the preparation of Bills of Quantities is about to be undertaken. Every effort is being made to have the further arrangements preliminary to the invitation of tenders completed at the earliest possible date.
