Vol. 181 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Employment on County Wexford Forestry Work.

15.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will give an estimate of the number of men to be employed at forestry work in County Wexford during the present financial year compared to the numbers employed in each of the last two financial years.

Employment in Co. Wexford forests is at present being provided for 259 men compared with a weekly average of 240 men during the year 1959/60 and 252 men during 1958/59. Forestry employment is, of course, subject to seasonal fluctuations, and it would be impossible to attempt an accurate forecast of the average employment level in Co. Wexford for the full year 1960/61. On present information, however, it seems that the level should be about the same as last year.

There have been quite a number of dismissals there recently. Whether that is seasonal or not I do not know.

It is seasonal. The overall picture of employment will be approximately the same as last year.
