asked the Minister for Finance for each of the six years ended 31st March, 1960 the amount of taxation collected on foodstuffs (a) gross and (b) net after deduction of subsidy.

The information requested by the Deputy is as follows:

In the period mentioned, consumer subsidies were payable only on butter, bread, flour and wheaten meal and the amounts were:

It should be noted that, on the withdrawal of the subsidies in 1957, compensatory social assistance payments were introduced costing £1.95 million in 1957/58.
