Vol. 181 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cork Telephone Service.

38.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the number of applicants in Cork City and suburbs awaiting telephone service; the reason for the delay in supplying the service; and when all current requirements will be met.

There are 370 applicants waiting for telephone service in Cork City and suburbs. The reason for the delay in providing service for them is that the existing automatic exchange in the Head Post Office building has reached the limit of its capacity.

Connection of the waiting applicants will commence when the equipment installations in two new automatic exchange buildings, which have been erected at Douglas and Bishopstown, are completed in about four months' time. It is expected that all applicants now waiting will have service by the end of the year.
