Vol. 181 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Improvement of Kerry School.

41.

asked the Minister for Education the cause of the delay in carrying out improvement works to Bouleenshane school, Ballyheigue, County Kerry.

A grant was sanctioned by my Department in June, 1957, towards the cost of carrying out an improvement scheme at Bouleenshane Boys and Girls National Schools. It was subsequently decided, at the Reverend Manager's request, to revise this scheme so as to provide a water flushed system of sanitation. Before the proposed scheme was put in hands it was evident that additional classroom accommodation would be required following the introduction of revised regulations for the appointment of a second assistant teacher in national schools. My Department has now approved of a proposal by the Reverend Manager to provide the additional accommodation by reconsructing the existing building as a girls' and infants' school and to erect a new school for boys on an adjacent site. A report from the Commissioners of Public Works in regard to these matters is awaited. Every effort will be made to have the case expedited.
