Vol. 182 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Security Precautions in Irish Racehorse Stables.

7.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will request the Racing Board to inquire into the security precautions currently pertaining in Irish racehorse stables with a view to bringing them into line with the new precautions recently adopted in England.

My functions in relation to the Racing Board are limited by statute and these functions do not include the issuing of requests to the Board to do, or inquire into, any particular thing.

I may add, however, for the information of the Deputy that I understand that a Joint Committee of the Irish Turf Club, the Irish National Hunt Steeplechase Committee and the Racing Board has for some time been investigating the security measures on the various racecourses so as to facilitate trainers who are responsible for the security of their charges, in discharging their responsibilities.
