asked the Taoiseach the number of persons employed in industry during the last twelve months, and of this number the number of (a) men, (b) women and (c) children under sixteen and eighteen years of age.

Current statistics of persons engaged in industry are available only from the sample quarterly inquiry into industries producing transportable goods covered by the Census of Industrial Production. Separate figures for men, women, boys and girls engaged in industry are available only from the Annual Census of Industrial Production inquiry. I propose, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to circulate in the Official Report a statement showing (a) the numbers of persons engaged in industries producing transportable goods in each quarter of 1959 and (b) the number of men, women, boys and girls in transportable goods industries and in all industries covered by the Census of Industrial Production in October, 1957, which is the latest date for which these particulars are available.
