asked the Minister for Local Government (a) the total rates collected and (b) the amount paid in interest on stocks, loans and bank overdrafts in respect of each local authority for the most recent year for which figures are available.

As the reply is in the form of a tabular statement, I propose with your permission a Cheann Comhairle, to have it circulated with the Official Report.

NOTE.

(1)The figure of £2,489,266 for interest on Stocks and loans of county councils includes a sum of £13,262 paid in respect of loans raised by county councils on behalf of Town Commissioners.

(2)The figure for rates collected includes the increases in rents of small dwellings which are in effect the rates on houses owned by local authorities.

(3)The figures in respect of interest paid by Joint Public Assistance Authorities are provisional.
