Vol. 182 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rents of Houses in Mountmellick.

16.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether Mountmellick Town Commissioners have increased the rents of their houses in Mountmellick since 1950; and, if so, if he will give details of such increases; and if he will refuse to sanction any further application from the Commissioners to increase such rents.

According to annual returns furnished to the Department, the rents of houses owned by the Mountmellick Town Commissioners were not changed between 1st April, 1950, and 11th July, 1959. From the latter date the rents of the houses were increased by 1/- per week, except where the increase would result in hardship, and, in the case of new lettings, to basic rents ranging from 5/- to 8/6d. per week.

My sanction is not required to increases in the rents of local authority dwellings and, accordingly, the latter part of the question does not arise.
