Vol. 182 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Housing of Aged and Infirm Persons.

19.

asked the Minister for Local Government what proposals the Dublin Corporation have for dealing with the problem of housing old age pensioners and infirm persons living on their own.

The rehousing requirements of old age pensioners and infirm persons living on their own are dealt with by Dublin Corporation in so far as the Corporation meet with such cases in the course of their statutory housing operations. For this purpose small flats are included in the Corporation's general schemes. I am not aware that the Corporation are considering any special proposals in this matter.

Is the Minister aware that it is the Minister's fault that they are not housed because he will not give the subsidy except in a few cases of condemned dwellings?

What the Deputy has said is completely and absolutely unfounded. If they want to do anything about building such houses they can come to me and they will be quite welcome.

The Minister makes a condition regarding subsidy. I am aware of that.

The Corporation should put its own house in order.

But it is the Minister who gives the money.

They will get the money but they are not using it.
