Vol. 183 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Jet planes on Transatlantic Service.

2.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power the dates on which the new jet planes will be brought into commission on the transatlantic service, the approximate cost of each plane, and the respective passenger-carrying capacity of each.

Aerlínte expect to introduce the first of their new jet aircraft on the transatlantic service about the 16th December, 1960. The remaining two aircraft will be put into service almost immediately after delivery in January, 1961 and March, 1961, respectively.

The approximate cost of each aircraft is £1,414,000. Each aircraft will have accommodation for 117 passengers, 101 economy class and 16 first class.

What will be the total cost?

I have not got the exact figure because the figure includes spares and ancillary equipment. The cost of each plane is £1,414,00— approximately £5,000,000 altogether.
