Vol. 183 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kilmore Quay Harbour Improvements.

14.

asked the Minister for Lands what is the present position with regard to the repair and improvement of Kilmore Quay harbour, County Wexford.

As intimated in my reply to the Deputy's Question in the matter on 17th May last, a plan and estimate of cost of improvements have been received by my Department from Wexford County Council. These are being examined in the Office of Public Works and will be discussed with the county engineer.

Can the Minister give any idea when these discussions with the county engineer will take place?

Following some recent discussions, I would expect that they will be in a position to have discussions with the county engineer in the very near future.

I shall not ask what is the very near future.

Could the Minister give any idea when they will lay a brick on the harbour?

I cannot give any further indication. As I have said, the information available to me from the Office of Public Works is that these discussions with the county engineer will take place in the very near future.

The Minister appreciates the urgency of the matter, in view of the fact that the summer is coming to an end, and that it is desirable to have the harbour in good condition as quickly as possible?

I appreciate that urgency and I am sure the Deputy will appreciate that my Department has to rely on the Office of Public Works to carry out this kind of work.

I am prepared to bet it will not be done within the next five years.

It will be done long before that.
