Vol. 183 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tuberculosis Allowances.

3.

asked the Minister for Health if it is his intention to increase tuberculosis allowances to meet the increased cost of living.

The question of the adequacy of the rates of Infectious Diseases (Maintenance) Allowances is at present being examined in my Department, but pending the outcome of that examination I am not in a position to indicate whether or not the existing rates of allowances will be increased.

Can the Minister indicate how soon a decision will be taken?

I am not a prophet. It will be taken as soon as it has been fully considered. There will be no avoidable delay.

Does the Minister not think that this is as urgent as any other increase?
