Vol. 183 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Sunday Licensed Trading in Ballybunion.

15.

asked the Minister for Justice whether he is aware that, because of the method of enforcement of the new hours of licensed trading on Sundays in Ballybunion, much resentment has been caused among tourists from Britain and the Six Countries; and that local traders and hotel and restaurant owners have suffered severe losses; and whether he will make enquiries in the matter and take whatever steps are necessary to ensure against damage to the tourist trade.

I am not aware that there has been any complaint in regard to the method in which the Licensing Acts are being enforced in Ballybunion since the passing of the Intoxicating Liquor Act, 1960. I have no reason to doubt, however, that that Act is being enforced there as elsewhere in the country. I am satisfied that there is no case whatever for an amendment of the law in this respect.

Without commenting on the law at all, does the Minister ever take time off to read The Kerryman? If he would, he would find out the position.

That seems to be a different question altogether.

It is well worth reading.
