Vol. 184 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Pensioners' Weekly Vouchers.

13.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the cost of printing, issuing and posting to pensioners, in July last, books of weekly vouchers to the value of 1/- each, and the number of pensioners who received such vouchers.

The increases in rates of Social Assistance provided under the Social Welfare (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 1960 as from the beginning of August were paid by means of books of weekly vouchers in the case of recipients of widows and orphans non-contributory pensions. The increases for these classes ranged from 1/- to 41/6d. per week. The number of pensioners who received a book of vouchers for 1/- was 20,462 representing £1,023 payable weekly. The total cost of printing, issuing and posting these books was approximately £636.
