Vol. 184 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Increases in Garda Pensions.

37.

asked the Minister for Justice the reason for the delay in implementing the increases in pensions granted to retired Gardaí under the pension increases legislation; and when it is intended to make these increased payments.

The decision to grant increases involved the re-assessment of about 3,000 cases, including retired Gardaí and the widows and children of deceased Gardaí. The revised rates have now been determined and it is expected that in the majority of the cases the arrears due will be paid by the 1st November. The remaining cases will be cleared by the end of November.

In view of the amount of work involved I am satisfied that there was no undue delay.
