Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Transfer of State Departments to Galway.

1.

asked the Taoiseach what progress has been made in regard to proposals for the transfer of State Departments or sections thereof to Galway; and if he will give particulars of the proposals.

The Deputy will no doubt have read the recent announcement by the Minister for Lands that he is getting a site in Galway on which it is proposed to erect a fisheries' research station and offices to which about half of the Headquarters staff of the Fisheries Division of his Department will be transferred.

While every effort is being made to promote, generally, the decentralisation of Departments to such an extent as may be found practicable, the Deputy will realise that it would be injudicious to make public any progress reports as to decentralisation proposals under consideration in Government Departments until the time is opportune for announcements in particular cases.

What number of officials would they have?

I think the Deputy had better direct a specific question on that point to the Minister for Lands.

It would not be far wrong to say that half the staff would be three.

It would be far wrong.

It is a typical suggestion by the Deputy.

If it is not, would the Minister tell us what it is?

The Deputy should wait and see.
