Vol. 184 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Acquisition of Roscommon Lands.

30.

asked the Minister for Lands whether the Land Commission have considered the propriety of acquiring the McDonnell Farm, Lisnagavragh, County Roscommon, and, if so, with what result.

Efforts made by the Land Commission to acquire this estate some years ago were discontinued when an appeal by the owner against the decision to acquire the lands was allowed, without prejudice to the Land Commission's right to re-institute proceedings.

Fresh proceedings are now in progress and objections by interested parties are pending for public hearing later this month.

31.

asked the Minister for Lands whether the Land Commission have considered the propriety of acquiring a farm of land at The Warren, Boyle, County Roscommon, formerly owned by the late John F. Killilea, for the purpose of distribution amongst local deserving applicants.

Following inspection on the ground, the possibility of acquiring this 38 acre holding near the town of Boyle was considered by the Land Commission but they decided not to proceed further in the matter. I understand that the extensive lands already in the possession of the Land Commission will be adequate to cater for deserving local needs.
