Vol. 184 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Acquisition of Kildare Estates.

34.

asked the Minister for Lands whether the Land Commission have considered the propriety of acquiring the Mullaghmast House and Freepark Estates, Ballitore, County Kildare, for redistribution to secure the maximum number of economic holdings for the many land-hungry men who are still trying to make their living on uneconomic holdings.

The Land Commission have decided to institute proceedings for acquisition of the lands of Mullamast (Freepark) comprising 115 acres. Owner has been informed accordingly and the relevant statutory notices will be published within the next few days.

In addition, the possibility of acquiring a further area of 248 acres in Mullaghmast is under investigation.

35.

asked the Minister for Lands whether the Land Commission have yet acquired the Halligan Estate, Blackwood, Robertstown, County Kildare; if so, whether a scheme for the division of the land has been prepared; and when the land is likely to be divided.

The Land Commission propose to take possession of these lands on the expiration of current lettings next month. Arrangements regarding the disposal of the estate have yet to be made and it is therefore not possible at present to indicate when allotment will take place.

Will the Minister say whether the land is likely to be allocated before next Spring?

As the Land Commission have not yet got possession, my own guess would be that it is extremely unlikely.

36.

asked the Minister for Lands whether the Land Commission have yet acquired the O'Neill lands at Clane, County Kildare; and, if not, how the matter now stands.

The Land Commission have not yet acquired these lands. Owner's objection to acquisition has been disposed of and the proceedings have now reached the price fixation stage.
