Vol. 184 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Discontinuance of Air Services.

38.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if in view of the operating losses of some Aer Lingus services he will take steps to have such services discontinued in keeping with his policy not to permit the subsidisation of operating losses in public transport services.

The Deputy's question seems to be founded on a misapprehension. As I informed him in a reply on the 3rd November no subsidy is paid in respect of the operations of Aer Lingus. The question of the commercial justification for the operation of any particular route in the Company's network is one solely for the Company.
