Vol. 184 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Motor Vehicle Registration Facilities.

37.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that if a citizen who has lost his motor registration book wishes to tax his vehicle, it is necessary for him to take the following steps in the Motor Taxation Office, Kildare Street, viz. (1) fill in a form on the ground floor, (2) climb to the top floor to have this form checked, (3) proceed to the ground floor to pay a 5/- fee, and (4) proceed to the first floor to tax the vehicle; and if he will take steps to ensure that some reorganisation is carried out in this Office or, alternatively, an internal telephone provided to obviate all the climbing involved.

The arrangements made for handling personal applications at the Motor Registration Offices are matters of administration falling within the province of the local authorities. The position would be greatly eased, particularly at peak taxation periods, if the public resorted more to postal applications. It is intended this year to advise the public to this effect in the Press and on the Radio.
