Vol. 185 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Acquisition of Roscommon Estates.

49.

asked the Minister for Lands whether the Land Commission have considered the propriety of acquiring the Hamilton Estate, Ashfort, Hillstreet, County Roscommon; and if any decision has been made.

The Land Commission have decided not to proceed for the acquisition of this estate which, I understand, was purchased earlier this year by an industrious local family.

50.

asked the Minister for Lands whether the Land Commission have yet reached a decision in regard to the acquisition of the Satchwell Estate, Game Hill, Fuerty, County Roscommon; and if so, if he will state the nature of the decision.

Following completion of the enquiries referred to in my reply to a previous Question by the Deputy on 29th March last, the Land Commission have certain dealings in hands in respect of this estate but, for the present, these dealings must be treated as confidential.

Will the Minister say that it has not been sold to any private individual?

I cannot say that, Sir. All I can say is that there are special confidential negotiations going on. I cannot go any further.

I do not want to embarrass the Minister but can he say if the Land Commission is still interested?

That is implicit in my reply in which I stated that certain negotiations were going on.
