Vol. 185 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - North Mayo Schools.

38.

asked the Minister for Education when it is proposed to begin work on the new national schools at Aughleam, Shanaghy, Shranamonragh and Corclough in County Mayo.

My Department has sanctioned grants towards the cost of the erection of new schools at Aughleam and Shranamonragh and also towards the cost of a new school at Aughaglasheen which will replace the existing Shanahee and Fishing Station National Schools. Arrangements for the erection of the new schools are being made by the Commissioners of Public Works. I understand that the Commissioners hope to be in a position to invite tenders for the new Shranamonragh school at an early date. Preparation of working drawings in respect of the other two schools has had to be deferred pending further consideration as to the type of sanitation to be provided.

The Reverend manager has offered a suitable site for the erection of a new school to replace the existing Corclough National School. My Department is having enquiries made regarding the classroom accommodation which will be required and, when this has been determined, the Commissioners of Public Works will be asked to prepare sketch plans and an estimate of the cost of the new building.

I am not in a position to say when building operations will commence in any of these cases.
