Vol. 186 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Remuneration of Consultants in Voluntary Hospitals.

20.

asked the Minister for Health whether he has received representations from voluntary hospitals with regard to the remuneration of their consultant medical staffs for extra services provided under the Health Act, 1958; and, if so, whether he has come to any decision in the matter.

Representations have been made by certain voluntary hospitals on behalf of their staffs. Arising out of them, I have had discussions with the Minister for Finance as the result of which the pool supplement payable by Health Authorities in respect of eligible patients will be increased as from the 1st April next. A notification setting out the amounts of the relevant increases under various heads will be issued within a few days to the hospitals concerned and to the health authorities.
