Vol. 186 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Review of Army Pension.

18.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will have the case of Army pensioner 37/S/17 reviewed and special consideration given to an adequate increase in pension in view of the fact that the person in question sustained serious injuries on duty which resulted in a reduction of two years in his contracted period of service with consequent loss of pay, allowances. prospects of promotion and pension.

The pensioner referred to by the Deputy served in Na Buan-Oglaigh from 26th April, 1922, to 8th October, 1941. Under the Defence Forces (Pensions) Scheme he was awarded a modified pension based on 19 years' qualifying service. This pension is the maximum which could be awarded having regard to his retiring rank and service. In such cases there is no provision in the Scheme for the granting for pension purposes of added years in excess of the actual number of years of Army service. The amendment of the Scheme in this regard is not contemplated.
