The net change of £2.8 million in the external assets of Departmental Funds in the year ended 31st December, 1960, is attributable mainly to the expenditure in that year of part of the proceeds of the 5¼ per cent. National Development Loan of November, 1959, which had been invested in short-term external securities until required for Exchequer needs.
