Vol. 186 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Trade Agreement with European Economic Community.

39.

asked the Minister for External Affairs whether there have been any further negotiations for a wider trade agreement with the European Economic Community since the appointment of a special representative from this country to that organisation; and if he will make a general statement on the trade potential in that area.

No negotiations have taken place relating to future long-term trading relations between this country and the community as a unit. We have, of course, bilateral trade agreements with individual members of the community, notably Germany and France, and these agreements provide scope for some expansion of our exports to those countries.
