andMr. McQuillan asked the Minister for External Affairs the date on which and the terms in which the Government expressed its revulsion at the murder of Mr. Lumumba, the elected premier of the Congo; to whom such protest was made; and by whom such protest was signed.

As Minister for External Affairs, I conveyed to the United Nations Organisation the Government's feelings of shock and distress at the murder of Mr. Lumumba. The date of the message was 14th February.

andMr. McQuillan asked the Minister for External Affairs if it is the intention of the Government to recognise Mr. Gizenga, the murdered Mr. Lumumba's deputy, as head of the legitimate Government of the Congo.

The answer to the Deputies' question is in the negative.
