Vol. 186 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - German and Belgian Residents in State.

55.

andMr. McQuillan asked the Minister for Justice the total number of (a) Germans and (b) Belgians who have taken up residence in the State in each year from 1955 to the most recent available date.

As I explained in reply to a similar Question on 21st June last, the figures sought are not available. What the Department's records show is the number of aliens of different nationalities who stay in the State for more than three months and who, in consequence, are registered with the Garda Síochána on particular dates. Those figures, in relation to Germans citizens registered on 31st December of each year since 1955, are as follows:—

660, 649, 614, 698, 729, 580.

The corresponding figures for Belgian citizens are :—

136, 133, 132, 144, 128, 103.
