Vol. 186 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Over-flying of Shannon Airport.

66.

andMr. McQuillan asked the Minister for Transport and Power the most recent date on which a request was received from an international air line requesting permission to over-fly Shannon Airport and the name or names of such air lines.

Permission is not required to over-fly Shannon Airport. Under the International Air Services Transit Agreement to which Ireland is a party scheduled international air transport services have the right to fly across Irish airspace without being required to land in the State.

In July, 1958, a request was received from the U.S. State Department for revision of the bilateral Air Agreement with the U.S., to confer on American airlines the right to operate services between the United States and Dublin either direct or via Shannon. The request was not granted.
