Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cork Regional Hospital Project.

12.

asked the Minister for Health if he is now in a position to state whether it is proposed to proceed with the project of a regional hospital in Cork.

As the Deputy is no doubt aware, the provision of a regional hospital in Cork was recommended by the Hospitals Commission as long ago as 1934 and the project was brought a stage further when a site for such a hospital was acquired by the South Cork Board of Assistance and extensive site works were carried out in 1956. The planning of the Hospital has proceeded at intervals since; but having regard to the immediate commitments of the Hospitals Trust Fund, I am not yet in a position to say when further progress can be made.
