NOTES

1. A sum of £200,000 has been earmarked for special grants for Bridge Works, etc., but these have not yet been allocated.

2. Figures in respect of the individual allocations of the Main Road Upkeep Grant for 1961-62, will not be available until later on. The total amount of that grant which is allocated on the basis of recoupment of 40% of approved expenditure on main road upkeep in the year is estimated at £950,000 approximately, including allocations to the four county boroughs and Dún Laoghaire.

3. As regards schemes the technical aspects of which are handled by the Department of Local Government, Grants under the Employment and Emergency Schemes Vote, which are settled by the Special Employment Schemes Office, are not usually allocated until mid-July or later in the year. Grants for roads in the Fíor-Ghaeltacht areas are allocated by Roinn na Gaeltachta and no such allocations for 1961-62 have so far been notified.

4. The figures given under the heading "Other Special Grants" represent grants notified for 1961-62 out of the special fund from which allocations are being made in the period 1959-60—1963-64 to enable road authorities to deal with special problems arising from recent railway closings and for roads serving major industrial, etc., undertakings. Certain other grants in respect of roads to major industrial undertakings are due to be notified later in respect of schemes for which commitments out of this Fund have already been entered into. .le
