Vol. 187 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Transport Dispute.

15.

andMr. McQuillan asked the Minister for Transport and Power whether in the public interest he has considered whether the Board of Directors of Córas Iompair Éireann are justified in their decision to declare a look-out against their employees who, anxious to minimise inconvenience to the public, are prepared to restrict their protest against present working conditions to token week-end strikes.

16.

andMr. McQuillan asked the Minister for Transport and Power whether in order to minimise the inconvenience caused to the public by a total transport stoppage he will consider requesting the Board of Córas Iompair Éireann to withdraw their decision to declare a lock-out on the men who are fighting for improved working conditions.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle I propose to take Questions Nos. 15 and 16 together.

As the Deputies are aware, the Minister for Industry and Commerce has been endeavouring to assist in resolving the difference between the Board of C.I.E. and the Trade Unions representing the Road Passenger Service staffs, and further discussions are in progress.

In the circumstances, I do not consider that it would be helpful for me to express any view on any aspect of the dispute.
