Vol. 187 No. 6

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take business in the following order: Nos. 4, 6 and 7. If not already reached, it is proposed to interrupt business at 12.30 p.m. to take No. 7. Questions will be taken at 3 p.m.

Would the Taoiseach like to give any indication now of next week's business?

I shall have a communication for the Deputy later, so far as it is possible.

Perhaps the Taoiseach would do that in relation to all Parties.

Certainly.

On the order of business, would it be appropriate to discuss Motion No. 14 in conjunction with No. 6?

I could not think of anything less desirable from the point of view of getting an early resumption of transport services than that there should be a Dáil debate on the dispute at this stage.

In connection with Standing Orders, is it your ruling, Sir, that this matter is not one of urgent public importance?

I cannot allow myself to be cross-examined on a ruling.

Surely, you will agree with me that it is necessary, before a precedent of this nature is established, to outline the position for future motions. Is it not a fact that this lock-out is a matter of grave public importance?

I ruled yesterday on the matter submitted to me then and I cannot allow further discussion on that matter now.

I may move that motion again in order to clarify the position.

I gave my ruling yesterday and that ruling is not now open to discussion. I cannot allow my ruling to be raised in an ad hoc fashion on this occasion.

You were given plenty of notice yesterday.

And I gave a ruling that neither the Government nor the Minister are responsible for the lock-out of the employees of Córas Iompair Éireann. I cannot allow any further discussion in the matter.

I do not wish to discuss it. I am merely discussing your ruling. This is a matter of urgent public importance and your ruling leaves this House in the position that it is not regarded as a matter of urgent public importance.
