Vol. 187 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Acquisition of Kildare Lands.

14.

asked the Minister for Lands whether the Land Commission have acquired, or have considered the propriety of acquiring, the Byrne lands at Ballyshannon, County Kildare; and, if so, when the lands are likely to be divided.

The Land Commission acquired 71 acres on this estate in December last but it is not yet possible to indicate when final allotment will take place. Temporary lettings have been arranged for the current season.

Could the Minister say whether the land is likely to be allocated by the Spring of 1962?

From the information before me I would expect that would be so. They are working on a scheme at the moment.

They are at present working on a scheme?

They are working on a scheme.

15.

asked the Minister for Lands whether the Forestry Section of his Department have acquired, or propose to acquire, the Woodlands at Knocknacree and Killamaster, Castledermot, County Kildare.

My Department has acquired an old woodland area of 41 acres in the townland of Killamaster for State forestry purposes. No lands have been acquired for forestry in the townland of Knocknacree and my Department has no proceedings in respect of any lands there.

Could the Minister say what it is intended to do with the land at Killamaster? Is it intended to convert it into forest or use it for a nursery?

As far as I am aware, it is intended to use it for ordinary forestry purposes.
