asked the Taoiseach the number of persons (male and female) who emigrated from County Kerry to the United States and England during the past ten years.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Emigration from Kerry.
The only estimates which can be made relating to total emigration from County Kerry are those for intercensal periods. They take into account all movement into and out of the county, whether to or from other parts of Ireland, Britain or overseas. For the intercensal period 1951/56 the net outward movement from County Kerry amounted to 8,681 persons (4,535 males and 4,146 females).
The only information as regards designation available related to the total numbers of persons who emigrated by sea to all countries outside Europe and who gave County Kerry as their last address. I propose, with the permission of the Leas-Cheann Comhairle, to circulate in the Official Report a statement showing the number of such persons who emigrated by sea in each of the years 1950 and 1953 to 1959. Similar data in respect of 1951 and 1952 are not available and particulars in respect of 1960 have not yet been compiled.
