Vol. 187 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - State Scholarships.

46.

asked the Minister for Education the number and value of State scholarships tenable at (a) secondary (including technical) schools and (b) universities.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 45 and 46 together.

The total number of scholarships awarded annually by local authorities to Secondary, Vocational and other approved schools and to Universities is:—

Secondary, Vocational and other approved schools: 620 scholarships, ranging in value from £10 to £85 each per annum.

Universities: 114 scholarships ranging in value from £95 to £200 each per annum.

The total number of scholarships awarded annually by my Department to Secondary Schools and to Universities is 35. The former range in value from £15 to £105 per annum and the latter from £125 to £175 per annum.

Apart from the foregoing a number of travelling scholarships to Vocational schools are awarded annually by Vocational Education Committees. I have no exact details as to the number and value of these scholarships.
