Vol. 188 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Public Health Nurses.

2.

asked the Minister for Health whether he is aware that the effect of the Public Health (Offices) Order, 1958, depresses the status of the public health nurse; and whether in view of the important duties performed by public health nurses he will consider withdrawing or otherwise altering the Order in question.

The Order mentioned does not in any way depress the status of public health nurses or otherwise interfere with any of the rights or privileges of that important grade. The sole practical effect of the Order, so far as the grade is concerned, is to make it clear that when a health authority proposes to make an appointment, having complied with the prescribed procedure as to advertisement and competition, the sanction of the Minister for Health to the person proposed for appointment is not necessary.

Question No. 3 postponed.
