Vol. 188 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Harcourt Street-Bray Railway Bridges.

11.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if he will state with reference to the discontinued Harcourt Street-Bray railway line when it is intended to remove the partly demolished bridges which are unsightly and, in some cases, a hindrance to certain types of road traffic.

I am informed by C.I.E. that three bridges on the former Harcourt Street-Bray railway line have been partly demolished. The portions of these bridges that remain carry gas mains and negotiations regarding the re-routing of these mains will commence shortly.

What steps are C.I.E. taking to remove the remains of bridges where they do not carry gas mains?

I am being asked about the Harcourt Street line and the bridges which in each case carry gas mains.

There are derelict bridges which are not carrying gas mains. There are just the two uprights. There is no means by which they could carry gas mains. What are C.I.E. doing to comply with the terms of the recent Derelict Sites Act so far as those monstrosities are concerned?

I understand that C.I.E. are in touch with the local authority and all those concerned in regard to all the bridges to be demolished.

C.I.E. displayed an indecent haste in tearing up the lines, which were causing the least difficulty. Now they leave these horrible structures behind them. Surely the Minister has some influence with C.I.E., unless Government Buildings have now moved up to Kingsbridge?
