Vol. 188 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Allocation of Galway Lands.

16.

asked the Minister for Lands when it is the intention of the Land Commission to allocate to the local tenants in the area the lands (McDonagh Estate) at Prospect, Dunmore, County Galway.

The Land Commission got possession, in August last, of this holding comprising 99 acres in the townlands of Prospect and Knockatee. Work on the preparation of a scheme of division is already under way but it is still too early to say when allotment will be feasible. Temporary lettings have been arranged pending final disposal of the Lands.

17.

asked the Minister for Lands when the Land Commission intend to allocate the lands (Darcy Estate) at Newforest, Kilkerrin, Ballinasloe, County Galway.

An area of 187 acres having already been made available for state afforestation purposes, the lands on hands on this estate now comprise 924 acres, including 388 acres of turbary.

The Land Commission are endeavouring to formulate proposals during the current year for allotment of 536 acres of arable land but, as there is a considerable amount of rearrangement involved, progress will depend largely on the degree of cooperation afforded by the participants.

It is not yet possible to indicate when a scheme of division for the extensive turbary on the estate will be prepared.
