Vol. 189 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Schools Sanitary Services.

44.

asked the Minister for Education the number of national schools in the State in which there are no flush lavatories and to which there is no piped water supply.

The records of my Department do not contain details of the sanitary arrangements in all national schools. I am, therefore, not in a position to furnish the information requested by the Deputy. I might mention, however, that in relation to all new schools and schemes of improvement of existing schools, it is the policy of my Department to have water flushed sanitation installed wherever water can be obtained. In furtherance of this policy, water flushed sanitation was installed in about 250 schools during the past two years.
