Vol. 189 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Sale of Galway Holding.

44.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that a holding of land at Cloondergan, Garrafrauns, Tuam, County Galway, has been offered for sale by public auction; and that the consent of the Land Commission to the sale of the lands has been obtained; and, if so, if he will consider having the consent withdrawn and having the land acquired and divided amongst the congests in that area which is the most congested area in Ireland.

I would refer the Deputy to my reply to his previous Question of 9th February last regarding the Revington estate on which the lands of Cloondergan are situated.

As regards the holding referred to in the current Question and which has been advertised for sale, the Land Commission have intimated that they will have no objection to the sale of the lands as a unit. They have also expressly stated that any sale will be without prejudice to their own powers of resumption and rearrangement under the Land Acts.

As a sale is scheduled to take place by public auction on Monday next, I do not wish to comment on the matter further just now.
