Vol. 189 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cement Strike.

28.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether the Government intend to intervene for the purpose of effecting a settlement of the cement strike.

Following discussions which I have had with the employers and trade unions concerned in this dispute, it has been agreed that the workers involved should return to work and that a conference between Cement Ltd. and the unions concerned, under a chairman nominated by me should begin within seven days of the resumption of work to discuss all outstanding matters put forward by the unions and/or the company arising out of the dispute.
