Vol. 189 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Automatic Telephone Calls from Dublin.

53.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when it is expected that it will be possible to make direct automatic telephone calls from Dublin City to (a) Belfast, (b) Cork and (c) Galway.

The installation of equipment to enable telephone calls to Cork and Galway to be dialled direct by Dublin subscribers is nearing completion but testing on an extensive scale will be necessary before dates for the introduction of the facility can be fixed.

Direct dialling of calls between Dublin and Belfast is a matter for agreement with the British Post Office and it is not possible to say when the facility will be provided.
