Vol. 189 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Customs Clearance of Machinery.

7.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware of the difficulties met by machinery dealers and their agents in getting customs clearance for goods at the ports in this country; and if in view of the resultant hardship and damage to traders, businessmen and farmers he will take action to see that this situation is remedied forthwith.

I am not aware that difficulties, attributable to the customs, are experienced by machinery dealers and their agents in clearing goods through customs. As I informed the Deputy in reply to a similar Question on 10th June, 1960, I shall have any cases he has in mind investigated if he will let me have the particulars.

If the Minister cares to put an observer on the clearance of machinery at the Port of Dublin, he will discover that there is at least a fortnight's delay in respect of every machine that comes in.
