Vol. 190 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Drainage of North Mayo Bog.

26.

asked the Minister for Lands if the Land Commission will complete the drainage of the Buggy Bog, Rowland Estate, Derrymartin, Boofeenaun, and give turbary plots to tenants in Derryfadda, Boleyglass, Curraghmore, Cuilmullagh and Ballyknock townlands.

A scheme for the allotment of 108 turbary rights over an area of 270 acres on this bog was operated in 1959. Preparation of a supplemental scheme for the remaining 300 acres of bog will be put in hands as soon as practicable. Already over £11,000 has been expended on the development and drainage of the bog as a whole. The turbary needs of tenants in the five townlands listed by the Deputy will be investigated in connection with the supplemental scheme.
