Vol. 190 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Uncommitted Countries: Proposed Meeting.

5.

asked the Minister for External Affairs if he is aware that an invitation has been sent out to thirty so-called uncommitted countries to attend a meeting after the Autumn meeting of the General Assembly of the United Nations; whether the Government have received such an invitation; and, if so, what action the Government propose to take on it.

I have seen the newspaper reports to which the Deputy refers.

I am not, however, aware that invitations have been issued as stated by the Deputy and such an invitation has not, in any case, been received by the Government.

Is the Minister prepared to give any indication as to what our Government's reactions would be to an invitation to attend a meeting of that nature?

That is a hypothetical question. I have answered the question.

They would ask the permission of the American Government first.

It is No. 5 on the Order Paper.
