Vol. 190 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Suspension of University College, Dublin, Society.

6.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Education whether the Government have received a request for the appointment of a Visitation in connection with the purported suspension of the Literary and Historical Society of University College, Dublin; and if he will make a statement on the matter in view of the widespread concern about the differences which have arisen between the College authorities and that ancient and honourable society.

No request has been received by the Government for the appointment of a Visitation in connection with this matter. The question at issue does not appear to me to be one which would be appropriate for reference to a Board of Visitors.

Mr. Ryan

I trust the Minister will keep a careful watch on the situation——

That is not a question.

Mr. Ryan

Will the Minister keep a careful watch on the situation so as to ensure that no disciplinary action is taken against either the auditor or other officers of the Society who are doing their duty as they and former members and present members of the Society think proper? The Minister will watch, I hope.
