Vol. 190 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Pension Scheme for Forestry Workers.

14.

asked the Minister for Lands what progress has been made by his Department with a view to putting into operation a pension scheme for all forestry workers; and when he hopes to be in a position to announce the terms and conditions of such scheme.

There is no existing statutory provision under which forestry labourers could be granted pensions. I am not satisfied that there are any special grounds which would warrant more favourable treatment of forestry workers in this regard than of other similar groups of employees in the State service.

Is the Minister aware that county council road workers have a superannuation scheme and that they are regarded as doing similar work?
