Vol. 190 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Electricity Supplies for Ballycroy (Mayo).

33.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power when the people of Ballycroy, County Mayo, are likely to be supplied with light and power.

I am informed by the Electricity Supply Board that the Ballycroy area has been considered from time to time for development under the Rural Electrification Scheme but has not so far been successful.

The Board are not in a position to say when supply may be extended to this area.

Arising out of the Minister's reply and having regard to the fact that the Minister has given a reply, will he say in pursuance of what official responsibility he has so replied?

I do not follow the Deputy's question.

Because the Minister has refused to answer another question I put down about the price the E.S.B. are paying for land.

In this case it is simply another connection under the rural electrification scheme. An insufficient number of persons applied for acceptance under the scheme. It is the usual reason. There are no special circumstances attaching to this case.

The answer to this question is innocuous; the answer to the other question might be exposing.

Why did the Deputy not get it done when he could have done it?

I put it in and it was refused. The Parliamentary Secretary will hear more about it in English and in Irish.
